charge cargo, shall anchor almost at the Custom-house of Tellok Kurtang, until the cargo is examined, and a pass granted, under a penalty not exceeding 5 dollars.

10. No vessel is allowed to pass the Custom-house at Tellok Kurtang, between the

hours of sunset and sunrise, under a penalty not exceeding & dollars.

11. Every vossel anchored in the harbour, or any other part of the river, shall, between the hours of sunset and sunrise, carry a bright light at least 10 feet above the deck or hull, under a penalty not exceeding 1 dollar.

12. A port dues of 20 cents per ton to be levied on all vessels entering the

harbour.

13. All vessels coming to this port oftener than once in a month, to be free of port

dues during that period.

14. Every master of a vessel while proceeding up or down the river shall, if ordered, stop and allow his vessel to be searched for contraband, under a penalty not exceeding 10 dollars.

15. All boats or sampans plying between places on the river to be registered, and pay a tax of 50 cents per month.

16. All cargo discharged from vessels in the harbour, or shipped in vessels in the barbour, to be brought to the Custom-house for examination.

17. All passenger's baggage.to be examined in the Custom-house.

18. All duty payable on goods landed to be paid before the same are removed from the Custom-house.

19. All duty on goods exported must be paid before shipment of the same.

20. Where the word "Master" is used, it shall be deemed to include any person

having charge of a vessel.

21. Where the word Vessel" is used, it shall be deemed to include any craft what-

ever, whether propelled by steam or sails,

22. The Custom-house, or Harbour Master's office is open every day for transaction

of business between the hours of 8 A.M. and 5 P.M., Sunday excepted.

APPENDIX (I).

Harbour and Customs Regulations for the Port of Larut.

1. The limits of the Harbour of Larut are from a line across the river 300 yards below

the Custom-house at Tellok Kurtang to the Custom-house at Ujong Tembo.

2. Every master of a vessel shall, within twenty-four hours after arrival within the limits of the barbour, report the arrival of his vessel at the harbour-master's office; and shall deposit there the vessel's register, list of passengers, and the imports manifest, under a penalty not exceeding 5 dollars.

3. Every master of a vessel shall, on arriving, take up the berth pointed out by the harbour-master, and shall there move the vessel properly, and not remove from it withou his permission, under a penalty not exceeding 5 dollars.

4. Every master of a vessel about to proceed to sea, shall give notice to the harbour- master, and deposit his export manifest, and list of passengers, under a penalty not exceeding 5 dollars.

5. No ballast to be thrown overboard in the harbour, or any part or parts of the river, under a penalty not exceeding 10 dollars.

6. No firearms to be dischaged in the harbour, under a penalty not exceeding 5 dollars.

7. No master of a vessel is allowed to take in or discharge any cargo in any part or parts of the river below the harbour, without the special permission of the harbour-master, under a penalty not exceeding 5 dollars.

8. No master of a vessel is allowed to enter with his vessel any of the branches of the Larut River without the special permission of the harbour-master, under a penalty not not exceeding 10 dollars.

9. Every master of a vessel wishing to proceed with his vessel to Ujong Tembo to dis-
