Acknowledging his letter of the 18th instant, remarking on the statement made by Bir Andrew Clarke, and stating that his Lordship had read it with much interest. Acquainting him that Lord Carnarvon is of opinion that the success which appears to be attending the policy now adopted towards certain native States affords no ground for the imputation of any blame to Sir Harry Ord, because in former years (in obedience to instructions) he refrained from a course of action which,
