Sir,
“Thalia,” at Singapore, January 11, 1874
I have the honour to inform you that, on my way from Penang, I communicateł with the Police Station on Pulo Pangkor (Dindings), and learnt from the man in charge, as also from the Raja of Pangkor that all the row-boats had left that part of the coast and gone north, I presume to their old biding-places in the Larut, Silensing, and Klum pang Rivers. I do not believe that they now own any ruler; their boats are new and specially built for them.

I regret that my orders will prevent my accompanying you to the Dindings. Should you express a wish, the "Avon "shall be telegraphed to meet you at any time, and I shaft be happy to find you a guard of one sergeant and ten marines should you desire one.

Letter from the Governor to the Raja Bandakara Ismail.
(After compliments.)
WE write to inform our friend, Raja Ismail, that the Regalia now in our friend's bands at Sungie Kunta, should be surrendered to Raja Abdullah, who was appointed Raja Muda in the late Sultan Ali's reign; for on this day, the 20th January, the great men of Perak have assembled at Palo Pangkor, and Raja Abdullah has become Sultan of Perak, and its dependencies; and a definite agreement has been made by them with our approval. Our friend will, therefore, do well to follow our advice in' this matter, and surrender the Regalia at the approaching festival, the 27th January.
On the 7th January, we sent a letter to our friend, notifying that the affairs of Perak were about to be settled, but our friend did not appear. Now, in Article 2 of that Agree- ment the following arrangement was made regarding the title, &o, to be enjoyed by our friend: That the Raja Bandahara Ismail, now Acting Sultan, be allowed to retain the title of Sultan Muda, with a pension, and a certain small territory assigned to him.”
