With reference to your letter_96038/1(15)/50 of the 4th January, 1950, I am writing to assure you that you will, of course, be consulted before any appointment is made to the post of Regional Information Office Representative in Hong Kong and it has been our assumption throughout this matter that the appointment would have to have the agreement of the Governor.

Incidentally, Rayner has already telegraphed to say that he does not think he will be able to find a likely candidate in Singapore. He has asked if Hong Kong can help.

I am making enquiries within the Foreign Office, but if you should know of anyone, either here or in Hong Kong, who might be suitable, I should be glad if you would let me have his name.
