My telegram No. 35 to Peking and your telegram No. 400.

Nationalist soldiers.

Is there any insuperable objection to sending further ex-soldiers to Formosa if authorities there agree to take them? Many have expressed wish to go and it is a fact that communists have indicated that they do not want them, at least in Canton. still think that by judicious arrangements we could send more to Formosa and as quid pro quo we could allow some Nationalist officials or their friends permits to come to Hong Kong.

· 2.

I see no particular reason to believe that Feking Government would make any fuss about this and if they did it

We

would strengthen our hand in persuading that they should receive these ex-soldiers.

る。 Grateful for your views.
