Sir John Jordan concurred that it was not an opportune time to raise the question. Subsequently Sir Henry May, the Governor of Hong Kong, reported that he was not in favour of asking the Chinese Government to make a larger annual contribution to the cost of the maintenance of the lighthouse. thought that if the arrangement made with the Chinese Government in 1888 was to be re-opened at all the question should be that of the cession of Gap Rock to Great Britain. But he too agreed that the time was not opportune for any such proposal.

The light continued to function under the administration of the Hong Kong Government until Japan entered World War II and has not yet been re-established.
