Dear Hardy,
Thank you very much for your letter of 11th
August. I must share your guilt in the absence of communication between us. I can only say that I have often thought about you and your work, and, so far as the
rediffusion and suggested long distance services are concerned, have spent a good deal of time in trying to serve what I hope I have rightly interpreted as your interests.
I will deal with your points in their order. My own job has been rather frustrating since we met; but I think we may be on the verge of great things, No, I have not seen your late P.M.G. I shall be extremely interested to have any information about your activities, programmes, plans and so on which you can send me without undue trouble.
The South China project is wrapped up in high policy of all kinds; but the Hongkong point of view is well appreciated in this office. You may be sure of that.
As to secondment and interchange of staff, I think the B.B. C. will be found willing to cooperate in the way you advocate, but, perhaps, understandably, may prefer to treat each case as it arises rather than to enter into any general commitment. When the time approaches nearer, you should, I suggest, raise your own personal desire to return, and we will at the same time probably ask the B.B. C. to consider seconding a successor to you. By the time you, having refreshed your- self at the fount of all broadcasting knowledge, are ready for fresh fields, it is to be hoped that Colonial broadcasting services will have been established and developed sufficiently to offer scope for you and other like-minded.
