co-operation with the Regional Information Office.
Other measures which may be urged affecting the
individual foreign territories are:
(a) Burma. Although quite a considerable volume of
publicity is being achieved by indirect means in the
Rangoon press, there is a great need for cheap
pamphlets in Burmese.
This demand is to be met by
the R.I.0. Singapore.
(b) Saigon. The political situation in Indo-China forbids
any considerable development at present of active
political propaganda by a British agency, directly or
indirectly. Until recently, moreover, there have been
obstacles to our passing a considerable amount of
French information to the French authorities in Indo-China.
This restriction has now been relaxed, and it may be
hoped that co-operation with the French may be useful.
It has been suggested that the matter merits an
approach to the French authorities in Saigon on a
political level, as well as the establishment of a
working relationship there and in Singapore. (e) Indonesia. The appointment of a new Information
Officer coincides with the more favourable political
development inaugurated by the outcome of the Hague
Conference. It may be found desirable to develop
information activities in Indonesia considerably.
As regards the colonial territories, the position
may be briefly stated as follows:
