I have to-day received a personal letter from Sir Alexander Grantham which shows that he found Mr. Alexander's visit to Hong Kong to be very useful in a variety of ways, not the least of which is that by and large that visit has had a reassuring effect. I shall be answering Sir Alexander's letter within the next day or two. In the course of my reply I shall tell him a little about the talk which I had recently with Air Marshal Sir William Elliott who accompanied the Minister of Defence to Hong Kong. I will send Sir Alexander Grantham's letter and a copy of my reply to Ministers to see.
