ITEM 312. JOINT INTELLIGENCE COMMITTEE (LONDON) COMMENTS ON JOINT INTELLIGENCE COMMITTEE (FAR EAST) REPORT ENTITLED THE THREATS TO HONG KONG.

The Teeting considered the Joint Intelligence Committee, London comments* on the Joint Intelligence Committee, Far East report** "The Threats to Hong Kong". It was noted that some of these comments had been quoted in a note*** to the Defence Co-ordination Committee with reference to the Hong Kong Local Defence Scheme. In discussion certain disagreements with the comments of the Joint Intelligence Committee, London were expressed.

Colonel GLEADELL considered that any review of the report on the threats to Hong Kong should await completion of the report on the Aims of the Chinese Communist Party in South East Asia.

Mr. ORTON stated that a report on the Chday seama Communist Party in Hong Kong had been prepared in Hong Kong were not entirely satisfied with this report, and the Security Liaison Officer had been instructed to raise the matter with the Hong Kong Security Intelligence Committee. Much technical work would be required on the report by the S.L.O. and by SIFE.

invited members to forward any remarks on the Joint Intelligence Committee, London comments* to the Joint Intelligence Staff, Far East;

invited members concerned to brief their respective Defence Co-ordination Committee members, in relation to the Hong Kong Local Defence Scheme, that the Joint Intelligence Committee, Far East was not in entire agreement with the comments quoted in the Joint Planning Staff (Far East)minute***;
