inspect the frontier terrain. I saw and addressed
a parade of the Hong Kong Defence Force and had
a useful discussion with its Commander. Finally,
I greatly valued the opportunity to visit the
A
Royal Naval Hospital where men of H.M. ships
injured in the course of the incidents on the
Yangtse were being cared for.
I informed the House in my statement of Kay 5th that substantial reinforcements were being
sent to the Garrison of Hong Kong. The first of these arrived in the Colony, while I was there.
His Majesty's Government have now decided to
send additional reinforcements of all arms
and the necessary dispositions are being effected
by each of the three Services.
It has also
been decided to appoint a Commander, British
Forces, Hong Kong, directly responsible
to the Commanders-in-Chief, Far East,
