2. 724 applications received for registration under Societies Ordinance, 57 already registered and 14 exempted. Most of 596 outstanding applications will require investigation.

Kuangtung (?have applied) but are trying to find way round. Left Wing Federation of Trade Unions, after considerable press agitation, has now apparently decided to register under the Ordinance, since it is not eligible for registration under Trade Unions Ordinance, but has not yet applied.
