Our Branch Association its members naturally are particularly shouldering the responsibility, and are doing their best, for scientific and cultural exchange between China and Great Britain. If the Branch Association were to be rendered unable to function in Hongkong, there will be greater obstacles in the scientific and cultural oxchango between Great Britain and China, and this cortainly will not contribute to the centuries-long friendship between the Chinese and the British people. We will not compare our situation with the one faced by scientists in history; Hongkong, however, will be the only place in the democratic world, where a scientific society cannot exist, should the Branch Association fail to get the lawful right to function,

We want to make an appeal to people of Hongkong, to the Chinese Association of Scientific Workers, to the all-China Scientific Workers Congress, to the Chinese Academy of Sciences, to the Ministries of Education and Culture of the Central People's Government, to the World Federation of Scientific Workers, and the United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural organisations, and to our fraternal organisation the British Association of Scientific Workers, We are sure that every organisation or individual believing in the advancement of natural sciences and technology would willingly give us generous help and supporte

Our aim, as has been expressed, is to unite the Chinese scientific workers in Hongkong for mutual help in the enlargement of professional knowledge and for the advancement of technology and natural sciences and of industrial and scientific reconstruction in China, We solemnly declare that we will stick to our aim and work for its realisation. No force whatsoever can destroy our consolidation, will to learn and patriotism.

"Our nation has stood up". In the very rear future, there will be a high tide of scientific reconstruction in our fatherland. To this scientific reconstruction we will offer all we have and do whatever we can, We are firmly confident of its success and victory! :
