2. Societies Ordinance became law 27th May. Communist Wen Wei Pao's have been strongly critical of the editorial 30th May suggesting that new Ordinance was obviously directed against "Progressive parties and societies" and that it created unnecessarily unpleasant feeling in people of the new China to the detriment of Sino British friendship: Ordinance restricted freedom of association and lessened Hong Kong's claim to be shop window of democracy and the authorities should there- for reconsider question, This is first case of pro-Communist presc interfering in Hong Kong internal matters.
