CARIBBEAN COMMISSION APPOINTMENTS
Mr. Garnet H. Gordon, 0.B.E., an elected member of the Legislative
Council of St. Lucia, Windward Islands, and Mr. W.H. Courtenay, an elected
member of the Legislative Council of British Honduras, have been appointed
by the Secretory of State for the Colonies as members of the British
Section of the Caribbean Commission for the period up to the end of the
next session of the West Indian Conference. This will be Mr. Gordon's
second term of office.
Both members were selected by the non-official British delegates
to the third session of the West Indian Conference held in Guadeloupe
in December.
Both are members of the Executive Councils of their respective colonies.

The Caribbean Commission is a consultative and advisory body established
in October, 1946, by the Governments of the French Republic, the Kingdom of
the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the United States of America.
are 16 Commissioners, four of whom are appointed by each of the member
governments. The Commission meets ot least twice a year.
The West Indian Conference is one of two auxiliary bodies of the
Commission,

The Conference provides regular me ons of consultation with and
between delegates from the territories on matters of common interest.
Conference is convened by the Commission at least biennially.
