We have recently been in communication with our representative in Hong Kong on the subject of telephone monitoring.

We have been informed by our representative that the Hong Kong Government has recently referred the question of a suitable ordinance to the Colonial Office, at the same time requesting information concerning the existing procedure in the United Kingdom.

If you would find it helpful, I could come and discuss the U.K. aspect of the matter with you. In any case, I should be grateful if I could be informed in due course on the Colonial Office views on this subject.
