Page 1589. q. 14242. You cant get a sufficient

quantity of it?

The answer is. I have made nearly 1,000 tests here

of different kinds of lime, and it is rare to get any which does not contain a large proportion of some inert material, in fact, the whole is often dead,

before you get it on the ground. It is seldom that

-

any of it will stand a big strain. I have formed red

earth alone into briquettes Shich have stood a strain

of 25 lbs per square inch.

Page 1689. q. 14244.Do you know that that is the

conorate &o ?

Mr Perkins says the next question is really part

of his answer. "Two thirds of the pipes that I have

put down both in London and Bristol, did not have any

concrete around them.

Page 1696. q. 14293. So that part of the work is

passed by your assistant. You dont hava the time ?

The answer should be: Yen, but even when examining

work personally, one sometimes passes work on the

Boore of expediency, which should he condemned. There

is a job I am carrying out now, the carrying out of

which endangers a lot of adjoining property, which has

to be propped up on shoring, to get the work finished

as quickly as possible is therefore of more

importance in such a case that condemning a small

portion of work not built quite up to standard. Mr

Haggard, the assistant engineer in the office,

inspects frequently, and I also go around as often

as possible.

Witness withdraws.
