When I took the opportunity, during an informal conversation with Minister for Foreign Affaiƒs on May 17th to raise the question of the Canton outrage (see my telegram No. 402) he retorted by reminding me that the Chinese Government were awaiting a further communication from His Majesty's Government on the subject of Kowloon Walled Olty. The Minister for Foreign Affairs urged the importanee of settling this case a8 2000 as possible,
