Canton incident.
There has been no further official
communication from the Chinese Government.
2. I took, however, the opportunity of informal conversation with the Minister for Foreign Affairs May 18th, to remind him that we were waiting to hear from him again about compensation. Minister for Foreign Affairs assured me of his anxiety for a satisfactory settlement and said that further investigations as to the extent of the damage and losses by the Chinese Government officials were being conducted as urgently as possible.
3. Should there by any developments by May 27th they will be reported by telegraph.
