Letter from the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dr. ang Shih-chich to Sir Ralph Stevenson.

My dear Ambassador,
With reference to Your Excellenay's letter of the,
23rd February 1448 stating that according to a report
[received by the Embassy the magistrate of Fo-on histrict in
Kwangtung Province sent a representatives to Kowloon City
to encourage the inhabitants to rebuild t:eir dwellings,
and requesting that instructions be issued immediately for
these activities to cease, and Your xcellency's further letter
of the 25th February stating that on the 21st February 1948
representatives were sent from Fo-on District to persuade
the inhabitants of Kowloon city not to re-erect their wooden
huts, I have the honour to state that on receipt of Your
Excellency'a letter of the 23rd February & telegram saß
despatched asking for details.
Successive telegraphic
replies have been received from the Chairman of the Kwangt ng
Provincial Government, Dr. T.V. Soong and this Ministry's
Special Commissioner for Kwangting and Kwangsi r. T... awok,
stating that the representatives were sent by the magistrate
of on District to deal with the relief of the inhabitants
and to advise them quietly to await a diplomatic settlement,
and no encouragement was given to them to rebuild their
dwellings.
