THE COMMITTEE considered a letter from the Colonial Office reporting a Chinese proposal for a compromise solution for the jurisdiction of Kowloon and seeking the concurrence of the Chiefs of Staff in the reference of this proposal to the Governor of Hong Kong for his views.

SIR JOHN EDELSTEN said that the Chinese compromise proposal in no way met the views of the Chiefs of Staff,

(b) Instructed the Secretary to seek the comments of the British Defence Co-ordination Committee to the Chinese compromise proposal, subject to the concurrence of the Minister of Defence.
