Your Excellency,

I have the honour to refer to our

agreement of to-day's date concerning the

conversion of the old walled city of Kowloon

into a Garden of Remembrance.

Arrangements will of course be necessary to

provide for those persons who now occupy huts

etc., erected in the old walled city. As

Your Excellency is I think aware, the Hong

Kong Government have already agreed to provide

alternative sites for these in the New

Territories, and I am glad to inform Your

Excellency that these sites are still available

and that the Hong Kong Government are prepared

to supply a certain amount of the necessary

timber and other material. I understand that

the Chinese Government will for their part

co-operate, in so far as with lies, in

making the necessary arrangements to ensure that

the removal takes place with the maximum degree

of smoothness and that adequate publicity is

given in China to the reasons for the removal.

3. Sanitary facilities will obviously be

required for the Garden of Remembrance.
