any measures in breach of the Convention of 1898 respecting an extension of Hong Kong territory adopted by the British Government, either in the past or in the future. Should the British Government have a different interpretation of the said Convention, they should seek an equitable and legitimate settlement through the usual diplomatic channels".

I am informing the Ministry of Foreign Affairs that I am bringing their representations to the notice of His Majesty's Government and making it clear that His Majesty's Embassy does not (repeat not) accept the validity of the claims put forward therein.

5. I think we should not leave the unfounded Chinese claims to jurisdiction over Kowloon City any longer un- refuted and I should be glad of your instructions regarding an official communication to the Chinese Government on the subject.
