Fifth. I discussed the possibility of this occurring with Erskine last month and he has ample resources to deal with the local situation. I only report this incident to you as I expect tho matter will reach Colonial and Foreign Offices and the Press.
My view is
that local .repercussion will be easily handled but it may lead to reactions from Chinese Government which will probably be only local. There is also possibility of strikes being called in sympathy.
