(a) Fourth paragraph

(1) Omit the words "leaving the area even more derelict than before" from the manuscript addition. This might give the Chinese an opening for arguing that if the pulling down of the walls has left the area in a more derelict state, it was the Hong Kong Government's job to remedy this.

(11) In the eleventh typed line insert the word "overcrowded" between the words "of" and "wooden"

(111) Omit the passage "apply equally to the whole of Kowloon" from the sixteenth and seventeenth lines. This is certainly based on what the Governor said, but we don't know that the measures have yet been applied to any other area than the Walled City.

(b) Sixth paragraph

For the last sentence but one substitute "It is

I think understood that they have not in fact done so". that the latest information from Hong Kong indicates that the men have not in fact appealed.

(c) Seventh paragraph

(1) Line four for the word "accommodation" substitute "sites". It was alternative sites and not accommodation which the Hong Kong Government offered.

(11) For the passage "which it is understood receives an official subsidy from the Kuomintang" in lines seventeen and eighteen substitute "which it is understood is entirely supported by an official subsidy". If this is based on what the Governor said
