My telegram 523 [grp.undec.]..
Following is text of Reuter report published in North China Daily News June 22nd.
The Chinese Government has not considered making any demand for a possible change in the present status of the British Colony of Hong Kong as an attempt to halt the flight of capital from the coastal areas as an American press despatch had suggested declared the official Central Daily News to-day quoting responsible Government
sources.
The paper said it was admitted in Chinese official quarters however that "Hong Kong does provide certain loop-holes in China's economic system" and Chinese Government was planning "effective action" to remedy the situation..
But so far as a change in status of the Colony was concerned it said, the Government has not given any consideration to it..
