Add if not, he would fall into serious mistake ? Certainly. Suppose you have a substance like Jayes Fluid, known to consist chiefly of oresols, and send it and to the analyst, and he gives you a figure of 17.47, then suppose you send him down a substance like Carbologane, which possibly containɛ carbolic acid, as an active body, he estimates the crssolic acid and carbolic acid, if Jeyes Fluid really contains oresol, that 17.47 har to be altered to 20.07, po that if the active body in Jayes Fluid is cresol, instead of having 17.47 to compare with Carbolosene, it is 20.07.

He speaks in his analysis of sodium carbonate. Is that

No. If you mix sodium carbonate with carbolic acid, or

you will have a sodium carbonate, or sodiin cresol formed. The proper value of that is 20.07 %, that notonly is Carholcsene 28% dearer than Jeyes Fluid, but if it only consists of carbolle acid, treated in a certain way - carbolic acid being an inferior

disinfestant to cresol it is far more experaive still,
as ahwm in these papers.
If you are using a disinfectant, which does not mix 13487 well with water, you lose a great deal of the effect of
the disinfectant ?
It requires probably more care than a coolie would give to it. A coolis is told to dip out a certain amount of
disinfectant, and if it mixes up with a swish of the
hands, he will do it alright, but if it requires a great deal of trouble, he does not do it.
And consequently a great deal of its value is lost 15486
