all animals there, to frequently inspect any animal that
appears to be sick or if I have reason to suspect anything
wrong with the animal to take steps on my own responsibility
and then in conjunction with the Colonial Veterinary Surgeon
Animals required for slaughter in the case of cattle, they
must pass the Veterinary Surgeon in the first instance;
animals passed by me I stamp for-slaughter. I also stamp the
sheep for slaughter. The swine they are examined personally
but not more. I am responsible to the Veterinary Surgeon for
the general charge of the place.

One fortnight I am on duty at 6 a.m. I am on roughly till
12.30, Sometimes I am there till 1.50 and sometimes a little
after 12, just as the Heat goes away, but say from 6 a.m. to
19.50 with an interval of half an hour for breakfast when I
can get away. I have no special hour for that. That practi-
~cally finishes my active work. Then in the afternoon I
generally have half an hour to make up my slaughter house
books, The other Inspector comes on duty -

The hours I am on duty I have both the Depot and the Slaugh-
-ter House to attend to, to see that the Slaughter Rouse is kept properly clean, to see that by no means at all any
unstamped animal gets in, and to carry out the Colonial
Veterinary Surgeon's instructions.
