Lord Ammon has since informed the press at Shanghai that he has been misquoted and that what he actually said was that Hong Kong question was " a matter for higher levels".
2. Nanking correspondent of United Press asked me today whether such talks were in fact in progress. I informed him that there was no (repeat no) founda- tion whatever for the story.
