COLONIAL SECRETARIAT,
HONG KONG.
2nd May, 1947.

My dear Mayle,
(103) NO.
Thank you very much indeed for your letter
No. 54145/47 of 12th April, 1947, about the paper on
the future of Hong Kong. I was very glad to get this
as we were rather uncertain what exactly was happening
in London. I have no comments on your draft which, to
my mind, sets out the position very admirably indeed.
In Hong Kong I do not think our views have
changed and most people here still conceive a clear
statement to be desirable and indeed essential.
But,
of course, there are other considerations to be taken
into account and these are all set out in your draft.
No doubt you will keep us informed of develop
ments as they occur.
With best wishes,
N. L. Mayle, Esq.,
Colonial Office,
Downing Street,
LONDON, S.W.1.
Yours sincerely,
Mt.M.
