I have been informed by the Consul General Canton, that action of this Government in suppressing For one month, publication of a local Chinese newspaper owned by Kuomintang, is being strongly criticised by Canton press, and that General' Chang Fa Kwei has informed him that in these circumstances it would "place him in a very awkward position" if I were to pay a visit to Canton at the present time as I had contemplated doing Visit has been put off accordingly, Further complaints I am therefore and possibly protests, may be expected,
reporting fully on the matter in my next succeeding telegram.
