Not as I am aware of, fir. I have pointed it out
000&sionally, when I have come across it.

I come first on to whether you consider it part of 1833
your duty?
No, I do not, Sir, except in so far that I consider
it my duty as an officer of the Board to bring to the attention of the President any irregularity I sTO,
whether I have orders or not. But I had no order about
the size of graves.
Now, on the 18th July this year, you reported to the 1934
P. C. X. O. for his information that you visited Hount
Davis Cemetery the day before, and found that the only
graves which exceeded the regulation size were situated
in the old portion of the cemetery, and had not been
numbered. The numbering of gravas was commenced in 1892.
By whose order did you go out, and get that information »
The P. C. M. 0. who was then Dr Clark.
What was his order to you, on that ? Was it in
writing?
Well, I could not say, Sir.

I dont remember. I bellave it was a verbal request
that I should go up there and report to him, if there
had been any excess.
5-7 Q.
What document did you take with you to enable you to
- find out whether the area of the grave exceeded their
proper limit ?
A.
None at all.
Then, how do you know that they exceeded them ?

There has been a regulation with regard to the size of
graves, in the office, - a copy of the regulation,
for some time, but I query whether it ever had had any
official recogni'ion, and I wrote in about that. Up to
then, these regulations had not been strictly adhered to,
