Chairman - I think I tol! you Gentlemen at the time when these books
were first seised, I requested Hr Lau Chu Pak and Hr Fung Wa Chun, with the assistance of a shroff, who could be trusted,
to go over the books. The books have been gone over and gradually they have been returned to their owners but no book has been returned without the peñaission of Mr Lau and Mr Fung and all books have been returned, that we deen neces-

a payment of four dollars to Inspector Woolley. I can't read Chinese but Hr Lau Chu Pak showed me the entry and told me

what it was in the presence of clerk. It appears that the
day before yesterday San Iu, his brother and two or three,
or three or four men from his firm cane and said they wished
to look at the bonka. The books have been constantly exaain-
-ed from time to time, but on this occasion four or five men
cane asked for different books and sat at a table in Hr Lau's
office. Mr Lau's clerk was there. They began looking over
the books and very shortly Mr Lau's clerk saw they were not
taking extracts but merely turning over the pages. He told
Hr Lau what had happened the first thing yesterday morning
and they found that the particular entry with fir Woolley's
name had been rubbed out. That is the book book produced
and examined by Meabers of Commission ) The man has wet his
finger and the entry is rubbed into a hole, Hr Lau Chu Pak
and two shroffs are prepared to swear the entry was there.
It is a very serious matter so I immediately went with Mr
Lan to the Attorney General and asked hån what to do and the
