I send you herewith a copy of a minute
addressed to the Prime Minister on behalf of the
Chiefs of Staff on which the Prime Minister would
like to have your comments at the earliest possible
moment.
You mentioned to me that a postponement of a month in the appointment might be possible if the
reasons for it were good enough. The Chiefs of
Staff do not mention any definite term for the
postponement. The problem is not one which is
entirely within our control, but I understand that
one month appears at first sight rather too short
a period and that possibly two months might meet
the situation. However, these are only personal
views and I think that it would be helpful in your
/reply...
