1. Reference recommendations of South East ..sia Defence Committee forwarded under your S.E....c.o.S. 747 and 762.
2. Te have rood that a British force should remain in Hong Kong until a gendarmerie is capable of onsuring the security of the Colony, to have also agreed that the existing strength of the urrison should be retained until the police force becomes fully re-established in pril. In this connection C.-in-C. India is negotiating for the rotention of 150 I.5.F. Brigade until April 1947.

We propose to oxchange 3 Commando Brigade with Army units in Malta us coon as practicable thereby making available two infantry beigedot, which together with a fiold rogiment will form the arrizon of Hong Kong after April, 1947. You should confirm that you can provide the field regiment and earmark an infantry brigade as reserve from your own resources.
1. Six L.C.I. (L) now in Hong Kong are lease-lend craft We agree and must be returned to merican authorities. however, that six L.C.T.'s shall be retained at Hong Kong. The question of the provision of maintenance personnel is bein, taken up by the Admiralty.
