7. The present Army garrison of Malta consists of two infantry battalions, of approximately the same strength as 3 Commando Brigade. Although a direct exchange is not practicable, two infantry battalions from elsewhere could be used for Hong Kong, bing replaced by the tvo from Malta. The Commando pri,zdo would be required to take over the operational role and garrison duties of the existing Multa garrison and for those purposes they should come under the command of thu 0.0.0., Īkita.

8. The G.O.C. Malt. hs forvarded a statement showing present Army commitrionts in Malta. The Chief of Combined Operations grecs th.t, although these commitments must interfere with the trining of units of 3 Commando Brigade for their propur rule, there should yet be worthwhile time left for such training; in my case the position should be grunt in rovement on that obtaining in Hong Kon

9. Accordingly we consider that the proposed solution is practicable and we, suggest that it should be effected without delay, but without prejudice to the Commando Brigade buing rulead for com.ndo training; and employment when circumstances permit.
