Reference your letter 13031/4/46 dated November '46.
Lt.-Gol Chalmers came over here yesterday and spent some time reading the report you speak of, and the telegrams concerning it. He will be able to give you all the details.
I can, however, assure you that the War Office are aware of the desirability of having a Field Regiment as part of the HONG KONG garrison, and in spite of the report of Commander-in-Chief A.L.F.S.E.A.,
recommending that there must be a Field Regiment in the Garrison after April 1947.

There has been some confusion on the question of the HONG KONG garrison owing to various telegrams between LONDON and South-East Asia having crossed, and certain misunderstandings regarding manpower ceilings. These are now, however, all being sorted out by the War Office.
