Dear Sudgen

6th September, 1946. 55

In Gater's absence I am replying to your lutter (No. 1012/B/979) of the 31st August about the question of the future Garrison o Hong Kong. lie quite agree to your circulating the note, a copy of which you enclosed in your ictter.

On a small point, we suggest that the first sentence of Annex V to the Note should read "We understand from the Colonial office that the Hong Kong Lefence Committee recently submitted

to the South East Asia elence Committee a report etc.", since the report was actually, according to our information," forwarded not to SAC JNA, but to the Secretary of the South East Asia' Defence Committee.

Yours sincerely,

(Sgd.) A.J. Dawe.

MAJOR GENERAL C.S. SUGDEN, C.B., C.B.E.
