The Governor of Hong Kong expressed himself as content subject to the satisfactory arrangements as above for immediate ir support, subsequent air reinforcements, air lift for Army reinforcement and provision of adequate Redar cover. He attached the greatest importance to "the development of n ir field in ddition to that at Kai Tak and believed that one ir field could successfully be shared by civil aviation and the R...F.

To sum up, the British Defence Committee in South East Asia asked me particularly to stess their conviction.

(A)

That the Garrison of Hong Kong should remin two Brigades until such time as the Police and Volunteer Forces are fully re-established, which should be by April 1947.

X (B) That, in view of what they considered a very real

possibility of attack by War Lord or a Guerilla Army if the permanent Garrison was insufficient to act as a deterrent the permanent Garrison should consist of a

minimum of one British Brigade and one Field Artillery Regiment available within the re of South East Asia and capable of being rapidly transported to the Colony in crise of nood
