Air Services Department,

CIVIL AFFAIRS HEADQUARTERS,

LOWER ALBERT ROAD.

Dear Mr Bigg,

HONGKONG.

27th February 1946.

The Air Kission left here on the 15th Zabruary after a ton day visit and you will have seen the C-in-C'e telegram reporting the present unharry position. The civil element of the Mission immediately took a dislike to the southern Approaches to Pine Shen and set out to find another site. The one they have chosen certainly has batter approaches but will cost for more in time and monev to turn into an airfield and most of the work nut into Fine Shan will be wasted: however, if civi Aviation cannot accent the limitations of Pine Shan I suppose another place must be chosen and we will1 have to tolerate the delay. I hore that the de- cision, one way of the other, will be arrived at

nick, because if in Shen is to be stonned the less damage done to the villemars' land the legs hostile will they feel.

Thank you very much for your letter of

8th December and the most useful documents. I hone that "The Aeroplane" and "Flight" torether with other publications will be arriving soon in response to a request sent on the 12th Decembar,

I was sorry to learn, from a recent telerram,

that 3.0.4.C. are unlikely to have air- craft to snare for this route until next year. This is most disarrointing and I can only hore that it is unduly pessimistic. we may not be able to take four-engined land lanes until a new airstrip
