The Governor said that, to compensate the people with land against their loss is an extremely difficult problem, The Government quite realise that most of the Crown land have not been developed; if they are given to the people, the latter have to take at least five years' time to devalope them to the same produo- ing power as those they have at present, The Government will certainly use all now agricultural methods and machinery to fertilize the land, yet it will take same time to complete the task. Therefore, before obtaining producing power from the new land, the Goverment may plan to pay some funds to aid those people. they are willing to move, they can move to PAT HLUNG (1.6. KAN TIN), but the area of KAM TIN Airfield is not wide nought to compensate the land ocmandeered from the villagers in PING HAN, Under these circumstances, the Government will consider some other means to compensate the loss of the villagers.

The Governor added that in constructing the PING SHAN Airfield, the Government have to commandear an area covering eight villages which consist of 700 houses, This directly affects 1,300 villagers. The total area amounts to 600 English acres. It is now planned to construct an airfield 2 miles long with only 1 rubray, The Government have decided to wake the villagers suffer the least possible damage and are prepared to give sympathetic consideration towards every reasonable demand from the villagers, especially the question of super- stitious belief,

As regards compensation towards orchards, villas, and graves, Admiral HARCOURT said that orchards and villas in PING SEAN will be compensated in cash. Compensation will also be made towards graves. The date for the villagers to move out has not yet been decided, but it is only a matter of a few weeks. planes will still use the KAI TAK airfield for the time being. The reason why PING SHAN is selected to be the site of the airfield is because of the suitability of its geographical situation.
