Approaches.

The approaches to the landing strip do not conform é

strictly to international requirements but are not considered

unduly difficult. The areas forming obstructions within a funnel 11° each side of the centre line rising at 1:50 are

shown in red on the accompanying map. Those hills immediately

adjacent to the airfield will be removed to form fill for the

reclaimed area of the airport and therefore may be considered

The areas so eliminated will provide valuable

building sites, the sale of which could ultimately be offset

against the cost of the airport. The major obstructions are

found to the East, five miles distant, and to the West six and

a half miles distant, all of which are clearly shown in red.

as eliminated.

A considerable area immediately to the East of the

runway, i.e. at Tai Kok Tsui, would have to be resumed to make

provision for the flight way, taxi-tracks and airport buildings.

This area is shown marked yellow and would give a length of

approximately 500 yards from the Eastern end of the over-run to

the first building. Most of the land within this area, is let

on permit only and therefore no difficulty should be experienced

in its resumption.

Two areas are developed on leases of in the case of

the Cosmopolitan Dock 999 years from 5th August 1871 and in the

case of the Shell Co's installation at Tai Kok Tsui 75 years

from 13th May 1891. It is known that the Shell Company have

plans for building another installation and no difficulty is

anticipated in resuming this area. The Dockyard however may

prove reluctant as it is at present very full of work.
