1.
For Chiefs of Staff.
Owing to the limited space available in Hong Kong and new territories for erection of the aerial systems request for modern W/T receiving and transmitting stations proposal has been made by the Hong Kong Comunications Board that early consideration should be given to services, Government and Cable and Wireless sharing receiving and transmitting sites with a view to adapting simultaneous shared use of large serial arrays.
2.
Before detailed plans are made for this project it is requested that
3.
(A) Agreement in principle may be given.
(B) Views of Combined Signals Board London may be
obtained.
(C) Some indication of future R. A. F. and Army
Communications requirements in the Colony hay be given.
It is emphasised that the local Communications Board feel that communal siting and in particular comunal rhombios or other arrays is the only way by which Hong Kong can solve the local problems presented by limitations of space nd geographical conditions, and by which the high standard required of modern communications can be achieved for commercial purposes and the Services.
4.
If both receiving and transmitting sites cannot be achieved it is considered priority should be given to a receiving site.
5.
6.
The main advantages are considered to be: (A) Maximum utilisation of limited space.
(B) Economy.
(C)
Possibility of integration of communications.
(D) Economy in local linc fucilities, e.g. for
keying and control purposes.
An early reply is requested in order that planning may proceed either on the above lines or independently as before.
