Siting of Transmitters and Receivers in Hong Kong

Further to B.J.C. B. Signal 201056A April, herewith are 7 copies

of the Minutes of the Special W/T Board meeting held on 16th April. An additional copy has been included for issue to Hong Kong Civil Affairs Department if desired. Further copies are available if required and will be despatched on receipt of request from you.

2.

Also enclosed are 5 copies of each of the two sketches referred to in para 1.13.4 of the minutes. Cables and Wireless Ltd, who prepared the sketches, consider that 7433 would be equally suitable for either transmission or reception, W434 is an amended version of W433 providing

The minimum for greater separation botwoon diversity receiving aerials. separation shewn on this sketch is 500 feet, i.c. 10 wavo-lengths at

15 metres. It is emphasised that these sketches are specimens of the minimum arrangement which could be adoptod. 7.435 would give something considerably less than optimum efficiency particularly for reception. Therefore these layouts should only be adopted if nothing botter can be achieved owing to limitations of space. The arrangements for obtaining land described in para 3 of the above quoted signal should, if found to be practicable, permit the adoption of a better acrial layout.

3.

Subsequent to the /" Board meeting of 28th February, notification was reccived from Air Ministry to the offect that it is intended to operate the R.A.F. Radio-Toloprinter circuits to Rangoon and Hiroshima on the single channel, carrier shift system, using Double diversity reception. Para 11(iv) (cxi) and 11 (v)(b) of the minutes of 28th February Meeting should be suitably mondod. The Engineer-in-Chief, Cables and Wireless Ltd has been informed of this change in R.A.F. requiremonts.
