Many thanks for your letter of the 8th April about the "duress" notes of th. Hercantile Bank, we have hitherto deferred taking corrective action until a decision was reached on the whole subject of duress notes. AB we have separately informed you announcement was due to be made in Hong Kong on April 2nd. We have not yet had confirmation from Hong Kong that this has been done, but we are proposing to send an enquiry about this and then to send a telegram to the various places to which you refer telling them that the notes of both the Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation and of the Mercantile Bank are now valid. This should not take more than a few days.
Yours sincerely,
S
BANA OF ENGLAND.
J. FISHER,
