"elegible staff" means the full-time teaching and instructional staff of the Polytechnic, and includes members of the administrative staff of the Polytechnic of equivalent rank or grade;
"Ginancial year" means the period fixed by the Council under
section 13(2);
"member" means a member of the Council;
"Polytechnic" means the Hong Kong Polytechnic established
under section 3.".
3. The principal Ordinance is amended by adding after section 3 the following-
"Officer of the Polyetchak.
3A (1) The officers of the Polytechale shall be the persons for the time being holding any of the following offices hereby consdtuted as poffices of the Polytechnic.........
(a) the President of the Polytechnic;
(6) the Chairman of the Council;
(c) the Deputy Chairman of the Council:
(d) the Treasurer of the Polytechnic,
(e) the Director of the Polytechnic, and
( the Deputy Director of the Polytechnic.
(2) The Glovemor shall be the President of the Poly- technic and may, as President, confer bonorary awards and academic awards in the name of the Polytechnic.
(3) The Treasurer of the Polytechnic shall be appointed by the Governor from among the members of the Council. appointed under Section 10ÇÏXD).
(4) The appointment of the Director and of the Deputy Director (if any) shall be in accordance with section §.".
4. Section 6 of the principal Ordinance is amended-

(a)
by deleling "The Board may do" and substituting the following
"The Council shall be the governing and executive body of the Polytechnic with power to do":
(b) by deleting the full stop in paragraph () and substituting a
semicolon:
(e) by adding after paragraph ( the following-
“(k) receive gifts on behalf of the Polytechnic.".
5. Section 8 of the principal Ordinance is amended-
(a) ia subsection (1) by inserting after paragraph (2) the following- "(aa) may, subject la subsection (2), appoint a person to hold the office of Deputy Director if it appears to the Council that such appointment is necessary or desirable, and the person so appointed shall underläke such duties as the Director may direct;";
(6) in subsection (2)-—
(i) by inserting after "Director" the following-
"and, if any person is proposed for appointment as Deputy Director, the Deputy Director":

(1) by deleting "mine" and substituting the following-
"¿welve";
(c) in subsection (4)—–
(i) by inserting after "Director" the following—
"and the Deputy Director":
(i) by deleting "nine" and substituting the following-
"twelve";
(d) by inserting after subsection (4) the following-

"44A) In this section "members" means members of the Council appointed otherwise than under section_1001)cc).”.
The principal Ordinance is amended by adding after section 8 Addulon of The following
new section BA.
"Academic
Board of be Polytechnic.
7.
BA. (1) There shall be an Academic Board of the Polytechnic appointed by the Council for the following purposes-
(a) reviewing and developing academic programmes; (5) directing and regulating the teaching and research
conducted in the Polytechnic;
(6) regulating the admission of persons to approved courses of study and their attendance at such courses; and
(d) conducting the examinations leading to the academic
awards of the Polytechnic.
(2) The membership and procedure of the Academic Board shall be in accordance with rules made by the Council under section 18.".
Section 10 of the principal Ordinance is amended-
(a) in subsection (IF
(1) by deleting paragraph (5) and substituting the following "(6) the Director and, except when the office of Deputy
Director is vacant, the Deputy Director;"";
(i) by inserting after paragraph (c) the following "(cc) three members elected by the eligible staff from among their number in accordance with rules under section 18(g) and appointed by the Governor:”;
() in paragraph (d). by deleting "eight" and "four" and substituting "twelve" and "Six" respectively:
(6) in subsection (3) by inserting after "Director" the following-
"and the Deputy Director";
(c) in subsection (4) by inserting after "Director" the following- "and the Deputy Director";
(d) by inserting after subsection (5) the following-
“(SA) If for any period both the Chairman and the Deputy Chairman are unable by reason of absence from Hong Kong or incapacity to perform the functions of their respective offices, or it for any period both of those offices ore vacant, the other members of the Council may appoint one of their number to act as Chairman during that period.";
(e) in subsection (6) by deleting ""Seven" and substituting the
following-
