26A. Any person who wanders abroad, or places himself or herself in any public place, street or water- way to beg or gather alms, or cauess or procures or encourages any child or children so to do, commits an "offence and is liable on conviction-

(a) for a first or second offence, to a Gne of five hundred dollars and to imprisonment for one month; and

(b) for a third or subsequent offence, to a fine of five hundred dollars and to igr prisonment for twelve months.

268. Any person who asks for alma în a threatening or insolent man- ner, or continues to ask for aling of any person after he has been required Lo desist, commila an offence and ia liable on conviction.....

(a) for a first or second offence, to imprisonment for three months; and

(5) for a third or subsequent offence, to imprisonment for sighteen months.”,

Section 9 is amended by deleting "one month" and substituting the following-

"six months".
