15. If an authorized officer has reason to suspect that an animal admitted to an abattoir is suffering from disease or injury, he may cause the animal to be segregated from the other animals in the abattoir and, if he thinks it is necessary to do so, may cause the animal to be slaughtered.
16. When an animal in an abattoir is slaughtered under paragraph (3) of by-law 14 or under by-law 15. the manager shall forthwith give notice of the fact to-
(a) the owner of the animal; or
(b) the person who appeared to the manager to be in charge of the animal immediately prior to the time when the animat was received into a waiting lairage or segregated. as the case may be.
PART III
SLAUGHTER OF ANIMALS.
17. (1) Every person who is the owner of an animal that is to be delivered to a waiting lairage and who does not hold a valid registration number allotted to him under by-law 18 shall deliver to the manager of the abattoir an application in the prescribed form.
(2) A person who holds a registration number allotted to him under by-law 18 shall forthwith notify the manager of the abattoir of any material change in any of the particulars-
(a) contained in the application delivered under paragraph
()); or
(b) notified pursuant to this paragraph.

(1) Every manager shall—

(b) allot a registration number to that person; and (c) enter the registration number in the register. (2) The registration of a person under paragraph (1) shall become invalid-
(a) at the expiration of three months from the date on which the last receipt was issued to him under by-law 20;
(b) if no receipt under by-law 20 has been issued to him, then at the expiration of three months from the date of his registration under paragraph (1); or

(c) if he contravenes paragraph (2) of by-law 17.
(3) Notwithstanding paragraph (2). the registration of a person shall not become invalid if a receipt is not issued to him within the period prescribed in paragraph (2) solely by reason of the failure of an authorized officer to comply with by-law 20,
19. (3) The owner of every animal which is to be delivered to a waiting lairage shall, before its delivery, cause the registration number allotted to him under by-law 18 to be marked on the back of the animal.
(2) Any person who, not being a public officer in the lawful performance of his duties, delivers to a waiting lairage an animal which is not duly marked in accordance with paragraph (1) shall be guilty of an offence.
20. On the request of a person who, being-
(2) the owner of an animal, or
(b) the agent of the owner of an animal. delivers that animal duly marked with the registration number of its owner to a waiting lairage, an authorized officer shall give to that person for the animal a receipt bearing the registration number with which the animal is marked.
21. (1) If the owner of any animal or carcase in an abattoir is not known or cannot be found the manager may cause it to be detained until the owner is ascertained or found.
(2) Where an animal or carcase is detained under paragraph (1) and the manager is satisfied that the owner of the animal or caroase cannot be ascertained or found, he may cause it to be disposed of in such manner as he thinks fit.
22. (1) The manager of an abattoir shall cause to be posted daily in a conspicuous place in the vicinity of every waiting lairage therein a statement containing the name of every person in whose name any animal was being held in the waiting lairage at the close of working hours on the previous day and the number of animals then held for that person.
(2) No person shall have any claim whatsoever against the Government or any public officer in respect of the loss of any animal in a waiting lairage unless a complaint in writing, and the receipt issued for the animal under by-law 20, are lodged by the claimant with the manager within forty-eight hours after the posting of the first statement under paragraph (1) in which the lost animal is not included.
