PUBLIC HEALTH AND URBAN SERVICES ORDINANCE.

ABATTOIRS BY-LAWS 1968,
In exercise of the powers conferred by section 77 of the Public Health and Urban Services Ordinance, the Urban Council has made the following by-laws-
PART I
PRELIMINARY,
1. These by-laws may be cited as the Abattoirs By-laws 1968 and shall come into operation on a day to be appointed by the Director by notice in the Gazette.
2. In these by-laws, unless the context otherwise requires- "abattoir" means an abattoir specified in the First Schedule: "authorized officer" means a person appointed by the Director
under by-law 3 to be an authorized officer; "Council" means the Urban Council;
"Director" means the Director of Urban Services;
"lairage" means a part of an abattoir which is used for the con-
finement of animals;
"manager" means the person appointed to superintend an abattoir and also means any person appointed as an assistant manager of an abattoir;
"offal" means any part of a dead animal which is removed from the carcase during the process of dressing, but does not include the bide, skin, or horns;
"waiting lairage" means a lairage in which animals are confined
while awaiting slaughter.
3. (1) The Director may appoint any public officer to be an authorized officer in an abattoir for the purposes of such of these by-laws as be may specify.
(2) In the exercise of his powers and functions under these by-laws an authorized officer shall be subject to the directions of the manager of the abattoir.
4. There shall be payable to the Government by every person to whom any services specified in the Second Schedule have been provided in an abattoir the appropriate fees prescribed in that Schedule.
