Explanatory Note.

(This Note is not part of the order, but is intended to indicate its general purport).

This order imposes new restrictions on the height to which build- ings may be erected in part of the Ma Tau Kok area of Kowloon The new restrictions have become necessary in order to protect the operational integrity of the instrument landing system at Hong Kong Airport upon which the safety of aircraft depends.

2. Experience has shown that existing buildings in the areas in retation to which the new height restrictions are imposed which exceed the new prescribed height have not materially affected the operational integrity of the instrument landing system. Accordingly, the order provides that the sites on which those buildings are erected may be re-developed with buildings no greater in height than the existing buildings. In one case, where plans for re-development have already been approved, the order permits a building to be erected to the height permitted under the Hong Kong Airport (Control of Obstructions) Order prior to the amend- mente affected by this order.
